Experience
I am a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. As a transfer student, I also received an Associate in Arts from Broward College, where I graduated with highest honors. My major, human development, is a multidisciplinary field of study that examines human beings over the lifespan through a variety of lenses (e.g., biological, social, psychological, etc.). I am currently working as a substitute teacher. The human development curriculum exposed me to teaching opportunities. In addition to being a research assistant for two labs, I was also a teaching assistant and seminar leader. All of these positions required effective communication skills in order to adequately disseminate information. I believe it is imperative for a tutor to ensure that their student feels comfortable. This requires the tutor to be both attentive and patient. It is through this state that the tutor will be able to address their student's strengths and weaknesses. I have always played the role of “mentor” in other people’s lives. From my younger brothers to a struggling friend, the feeling that comes with changing one’s life is unparalleled. I can tutor in a variety of subjects. In high school, I took and passed AP Human Geography (4), AP Psychology (5), AP Spanish (5), and AP US History (4). I am also able to provide college guidance and preparation (e.g., choosing a college, application process, essay writing, etc.). Until my second year in Broward College, I never imagined myself going to an Ivy League university. As someone who eventually transferred to one, I feel inclined to share my story and to guide those who will inherit the future.
